Bodhichitta - Awakened Heart

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

A flickering flame of candle light awareness,
An incandescent bulb, steady and glaring,
An Olympian torch, searing with the promise of eternal illumination

What our imperfect and limited senses convey
Through the rapid succesions of frames,
Untrained mind,
Rambling aimlessly,
Weak and faulty;
Judging and catagorizing events
Displayed on the screen of (un) awareness.

Can we witness what is?
As it is?
When it is?
Where it is?

And dare we ask Why?

The karmic wheel of Samsara
Spun by our desires and actions;
We are responsible.
And through wisdom, we can uncloak ignorance
To act from a place of compassion
And be free from suffering
And help others be free from suffering.

Happy 35th, Sol

In Ojo Sarco, New Mexico, on the "High Road to Taos" in 1970 we lived in a small adobe one room house. With Mamacita, mother of 13 home-delivered babies across the dirt road, I was confident that we would have Solomon at home. During dinner of HOT green chilis and brownies we found ourselves bouncing down the canyon dirt road to the tiny hospital in Embudo. When we brought Solomon home his first bed was a dresser drawer. And from these humble beginnings....

And , at 35, he is a good husband and father and provider for his family. He still likes hard rock concerts. I love him for all he is, my son, Solomon.
